Halloween 2034 Guide

About Halloween

Halloween on October 31st is one of the most beloved and visually distinctive holidays of the year, known for its embrace of the spooky, the playful, and the creative. Children and adults alike dress in costumes ranging from frightening monsters to beloved fictional characters, and neighborhoods transform into haunted scenery with jack-o'-lanterns, cobwebs, and fog machines. Trick-or-treating is a deeply embedded tradition where children go door-to-door collecting candy, while adults enjoy costume parties, haunted attractions, and horror movie marathons. Pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and harvest festivals round out the broader autumn season that Halloween caps off.

History & Origins

Halloween traces its roots to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated on the night of October 31st to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. Celts believed the boundary between the living and the dead became thin on this night. When the Romans conquered Celtic lands, Samhain merged with Roman harvest festivals. As Christianity spread, November 1st became All Saints' Day (All Hallows'), making October 31st All Hallows' Eve — later shortened to Halloween. Irish and Scottish immigrants brought the holiday to America in the 19th century, where it evolved into the candy-centric celebration we know today.
